This renovation of the forth floor included comprehensive finish upgrades to the corridors and 28 rooms of the Mother Baby Care Unit while it remained fully operational. Work included replacement of wall coverings, ceiling tiles, flooring, paint, and window coverings. Bathrooms received new shower surrounds, vanities, wall and floor tile, as well as installation of updated plumbing fixtures. Cubbies were installed in each room to house updated monitoring and patient record equipment.
These patient rooms are used as post birthing recovery units and construction activity took into account sensitivity to the mothers and newborns. Construction activity was limited to two patient rooms at a time, including phased corridor work in front of those rooms, which added to the complexity of an already intricate water jet cut flooring product.
