UC Berkeley Barker Hall
Berkeley, CA
Overview
Located on the University of California Berkeley Campus, the seven-story Barker Hall is the location of the Kuryian Laboratory. The seismic retrofit to a 1960’s precast/concrete building included a new grade beam foundation system as well as the addition of tube steel enhancements to 190 perimeter columns. All lab mechanical, electrical, fire sprinkler, life safety and plumbing systems were upgraded, including the replacement of all steam regulators, steam vacuum, domestic hot water and heating and hot water steam exchange; as well as all lab interior finishes and casework renovation. Installed new DI water distribution system and replaced entire lab acid waste system. Fast-track schedule required collaboration between the exterior upgrade team and the interior improvement team.
