Heleloa Historic Housing & The Eisenhower House
Kane'ohe
Overview
Located at Marine Corps Base (MCB) Hawai'i Kane'ohe Bay on the Mokapu Peninsula of O'ahu, the Heleloa Neighborhood (previously known as Hilltop) is the only remaining historic family housing on the base. The neighborhood is significant as an example of military housing that was a major component of the development of Naval Air Staion Kane'ohe, which was constructed in anticipation of the United States' entry into World War II. One specific house in the neighborhood, Facility 515, is also significant for its association with President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The Eisenhower House is a great example of a historic property that functions well within a contemporary lifestyle, while preserving the culture and reusing as many of the existing materials as possible.
