Center at Waikiki

Overview

With its location in a dense urban area at the center of Waikiki, the construction of this retail building and its adjacent open-air market required detailed logistical planning and maintenance of the safety of the surrounding pedestrian areas.

HIstorical items from the circa-1936 theater were salvaged for use in the new building including leather doors, original W-A-I-K-I-K-I sign and decorative aluminum grilles. The project is a unique hybrid of mixed media: CMU, concrete, wood, steel, and historical elements.
