San Francisco Veterans Memorial Dedication Ceremony

On Friday October 10th, crowds gathered to dedicate the San Francisco Veterans Memorial to our Nation’s Veterans in honor of their service. With completion of the “Passage of Remembrance,” the War Memorial Complex finally has the veterans’ monument that it was promised over 80 years ago. The Pankow team of Bret Firebaugh, Mike Galvez, Margarett Buschkamp and Steve Cornelison, began construction for the monument in the courtyard between the War Memorial Opera House and Veterans Building in April when the battlefield soil from the octagon was excavated.

The memorial cost $2.5 million and as part of the ceremony, the chest of battlefield soil was removed from the Opera House and entombed into the granite face of the monument. Pankow was pleased to be a part of such a historical tribute and is also currently renovating the $91 million dollar San Francisco War Memorial Veterans Building Seismic Upgrade and Improvements project, set to wrap up in the summer of 2015.
